Michelle Chavez, LCSW

I am Michelle Chavez, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I began my Social Work journey at New Mexico Highlands University where I completed my bachelor’s degree in 2013. I went on to earn my master’s degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2016. I was fortunate to assist USC in piloting its Telehealth program which has given me the confidence to provide both Telehealth and in-person therapeutic sessions.
I have worked as a Social Worker in New Mexico for over 10 years. During this time, I have made many connections with individuals, families, and community-support professionals. I love working in New Mexico! Some of my favorite hobbies include hiking, camping, and enjoying the delicious food New Mexico is known for.
I am passionate about working with children, youth, and families while using dynamic and fluid methods in therapy. The beauty of therapy is that interventions are flexible. I believe that individuals and families are experts in their own lives. I love strengths-based perspectives and the theories around Psychosocial, Systems, Family Systems, and Task-Centered approaches. I use crisis intervention, Cognitive Behavioral Theory techniques, and offer directive and non-directive play therapy techniques. I have a passion for play therapy and family systems therapy approaches.
I am passionate about getting to know others, working collaboratively, and seeing my clients make positive and healthy advances. As a therapist, I take a non-judgmental and warm approach to assisting my clients in meeting their goals.
I look forward to working with you!
